The black horse serves as a symbolic figure of mourning—a companion in grief. The curtain represents the membrane of a dream, suspended between waking and sleeping states. It is movable, oscillating between worlds. A dream can be so immersive that we carry it into our day, just as experiences from our waking life can find their way into our sleep. The work also touches on the maternal gesture of a slap on the bottom.
