Sphere

In the work Sphere, Denker cooperates with wasps. In this work, she appropriates the wasps’ ability to process botanical material, such as dead wood, into their habitat. For this work, Denker used abandoned wasp nests, whose round protective shells she detached with the help of moisture and assembled into a picture. The resulting landscape provides information about each individual flight that the wasps undertook to build their nest. Each of the colored stripes testifies to the different materials that the wasps picked up, mixed with saliva and processed during individual flights. Each line represents a flight. Denker arranges the carefully obtained wasp papers in a circle. A reference to the self-contained cosmos that the wasps build for themselves, which feeds on their environment.
